The "Comitati degli Italiani all’estero", founded and regulated by Law n. 286/2003 and DPR n. 395/2003, are representative bodies of the Italian communities permanently residing abroad, acting as liaisons between the Italian community they represent and the Italian Diplomatic-Consular Authorities, and are established in those consular jurisdictions wherein at least 3,000 nationals reside. Every Committee is comprised of either 12 or 18 elective members (plus additional co-opted members), where the Italian community is in excess of 100.000 nationals.
The Com.It.Es. contributes, in particular, in determining the social, cultural and civic development needs of the Italian residents in the consular jurisdiction.
